Purpose of the job
The Technical in-house Trainer is responsible for designing, organizing, and delivering high-quality training programs for our technical teams and operators, playing a key role in enhancing the technical skills of our workforce and ensuring consistent knowledge transfer across the organization to promote flexibility and multi-skill.
Responsabilities:
Design Training Programs:
- Develop detailed training plans, materials, instructor guides, manuals, learning modules (including verification tests to verify the acquisition of technical and/or administrative knowledge) and documentation tailored to target audiences, taking into account the needs and regulations required by HHLA, Port Authorities and aligning with the Company's operational and business areas. All these activities must be carried out with a prior alignment and constant cooperation with HSEQ department; proposing changes to the procedures and operating instructions for driving the vehicles (e.g. tug master, reach stacker, etc.);
- Create engaging and interactive training content using modern tools and instructional design methodologies;
- Main focus of the training should be terminal equipment: MHC crane, Reach stacker, tug masters, etc.;
- Leverage training opportunities from new technologies (e.g. simulator) and from external suppliers (e.g. external training centers);
- Structure induction program for newly hired Equipment Operators;
- Define and deliver “Train The Trainer” training plan by identifying Key users and training them as key trainers;
- Define an expected average time for the completion of a training cycle for every equipment/job (e.g. 2 months for 4x4 tug masters, etc.);
- Attend periodical training and education meetings for operational staff with OPS, HR and HSEQ.
Identify Training Needs and create training plan
- Conduct training needs assessments in collaboration with operations supervisors and technical leads;
- Develop detailed training plans to ensure consistent development in employees’ technical skills, taking into account operations constraints and development targets;
- Monthly review and update training plans.
Organize Training Sessions:
- Schedule training sessions, coordinate with stakeholders, and manage logistics (venues, tools, equipment availability) both for in-house and external technical training;
- Deliver induction training to newly hired equipment operators;
- Engage and motivate experienced drivers for training on the job;
- Maintain training schedule and track attendance and progresses, ensuring that relevant documentation is properly filled-in and recorded;
- Prepare and distribute pre-training and post-training materials as needed;
- Keep updated the list of internal trainers (with a prio-alignment with HSEQ dept.), ensuring that on-the-job training is delivered only by qualified trainers.
Deliver and Record Training:
- Conduct in-person, virtual, or hybrid technical training sessions;
- Use a variety of delivery methods including instructor-led training, training on the job, simulations;
- Provide one-on-one coaching or mentoring when required;
- Deliver duly completed attendance lists, exams and forms signed by each participant at the end of each course;
- Support administrative activities related to training course preparation and document control;
- Carry out the necessary activities to prepare theoretical training rooms and scenarios for practical exercises;
- Ensure proper recording of training, to facilitate audits and monitoring both from internal functions and external bodies.
Evaluate and Improve Training Effectiveness:
- Assess training outcomes through evaluations, feedback, and performance metrics.
- Continuously update training content based on technology changes and participant feedback.
- Report on training effectiveness and suggest improvements.
- Conduct regular audits during the working days of trained staff in order to identify and establish operational improvements and new working methods (GEMBA).
- Report to Operations Management and HSE any deviations found in daily activities from procedures provided during training.
- Attend internal and external refresher courses provided, either by manufacturers or vendors, in order to stay on the cutting edge of equipment management, course delivery, and instructional technology.
Requirements:
Education & Experience
- Technical degree or related degree;
- 2 to 5 years of experience as a harbour crane operator and other terminal equipment;
- 2 to 5 years as a training instructor;
Technical Skills & Knowledge Required (specific skills and knowledge required for the position)
- Design of syllabus and training manuals;
- Design of instructor guides;
- Good knowledge of safety and environmental regulations and laws;
- State-of-the-art knowledge of equipment management, course delivery, and instructional technology.
Behavioral Competences Required (e.g., organizational skills, ability to lead a team, etc.)
- Passion for teaching and ability to communicate knowledge;
- Excellent organizational and supervisory skills;
- Self-directedness, attention to detail, results orientation;
- Tolerance to pressure
Language Requirements
- Proficient Italian;
- Intermediate English.
Other Requirements
- Valid EU work permit. (Ex.)
- Willing to relocate to Trieste at short notice
